Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech. He called it full of lies. Along with this, he was accused of misleading Americans on the issues of economy, voting rights and Iran. A day after Trump’s speech, Harris told Aaron Parnas, host of his Substack show The Parnas Perspective, on Wednesday (local time) that she watched the speech and found it disconnected from the realities facing ordinary families. “I saw it. It was full of lies,” she said. She also rejected Trump’s claim that the country was in a strong position. “Not at all,” Harris said. “Let me tell you… a lot of people are burdened with rising prices, expensive health care and expensive housing.”
Told the story of meeting a mother in Mississippi
Along with this he described his recent trips to the southern states. He told the story of meeting a mother in Mississippi whose weekly grocery budget for four people was just $150. “Everything that was in the cart was for her children,” Harris said, adding that the mother told him that whatever her children would not eat, she would eat it herself. “She walked to get bottled water because she can’t drink tap water because the water is brown and poisonous. This is America.” Harris also criticized the proposed spending priorities. He asked, “When you cut Medicaid by $1 trillion, who does that speak for? On the other hand, you’re getting a $1 trillion tax cut for the richest people in America. That’s what’s happening in our country right now.” On the issue of voting rights, Harris strongly opposed the SAVE Act, which Trump had urged Congress to pass. He argued that the measure would require people to show a birth certificate or passport to register to vote. At the same time, he claimed that about 40 percent of Americans do not have these documents.
The American people are not ready for another war
Speaking on foreign policy, Harris expressed concern over rising tensions with Iran. He said that Trump had earlier claimed that he had completely destroyed his program. Called it complete nonsense. He said that now he is sending American troops to the region, making it very likely that American men and women will be deployed to war. Harris further said, “The American people do not want another war, nor do they want to send their sons and daughters to start an operation that is avoidable and which is also possible.”
What is State of the Union address?
The State of the Union address is an annual address given by the US President to Congress in which he outlines legislative priorities. The situation of the country is assessed. It often sets the tone for domestic and foreign policy debates before elections. The 2026 midterm elections will decide who will control the Congress. These are widely seen as referendums on the current president’s agenda and can significantly influence the direction of US domestic and international policy.
